The Manufacturing Division was recently created in efforts to respond to the
training needs of the new and evolving industries now calling the Rio Grande
Valley home. The Rio Grande Valley is no longer an agriculture driven
economy that it once used to be. With the area's close proximity to the U.S.
and Mexican border and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA),
manufacturing and technology is more apparent in our local economy. The
skills and training required by the jobs are also high. VIDA is working with
employers to identify the skill requirements for these jobs so that people
may have the necessary training needed for employment.
